KGNS+ chose October’s Teacher of the Month

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A first grade teacher who has been in classrooms for more than two decades got a surprise when she was named October Teacher of the Month.

Mrs. Gage Canales spent the last 27 years at United Day School.

Canales received many nominations from parents who spoke highly of his teaching methods.

They especially talked about their methods of not only teaching their students to read, but also instilling a love of reading.

Canales said seeing how empowered children feel when they learn to read inspires her to continue teaching.

“I am very happy that I can teach children to read. They become stronger when they learn to read. I found it very satisfying to be told last year that I had been chosen as the teacher most likely to survive at the school. I love what I do. I’m running late. Children. It is very satisfying to see children get excited about reading and feel the joy of learning. That’s what inspires me to come to work every day.”
