3cr bank fraud: CBI court holds manager and police guilty

Chandigarh: Private CBI court of Haryana Panchkula A manager was hired on Monday Cooperative Bank and a former police officer were guilty of withdrawing nearly ₹3 crore from the bank’s Murthal branch in Sonipat into various accounts.

Special public prosecutor Harsh Mohan Singh said the penalty amount will be announced on November 4.
The case dates back to November 2016, when the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) branch of the CBI’s Chandigarh unit arrested the duo on charges of cheating and fraud. As a result, two people were arrested.
During his tenure in Murthal, Sharma allegedly opened dubious accounts in connivance with Ravinder Singh and diverted money worth around Rs 3 million.
After the scam came to light, the police referred the case to the CBI after conducting preliminary investigation. In December 2016, the agency filed a criminal complaint against the accused and in February 2017, the CBI court started hearing the case.
Sources said both defendants were released on bail and will attend the hearing. After 122 hearings over the last seven years, the court finally decided the case.
