4 charged after NJ detective killed in home invasion

BRIDGETON, N.J.Four people are facing charges more than two weeks after New Jersey detective Monica Mosley was shot to death in her own home during a violent home invasion in Cumberland County.

Following an extensive investigation, the Cape May County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that the following four individuals have been charged:

  • Nyshawn Mutcherson, 29, of Vineland, was charged with Murder (Intentionally and/or knowingly Causing Death), a First Degree felony; Murder (Murder During Robbery) First Degree Felony; Theft as a Second Degree Felony; Unlawful possession of a weapon, a Second Degree Felony; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a Second Degree Felony; Not Possession of a Weapon by a Particular Person, a Second Degree Felony; Hindering Arrest for Third Degree Felony; Obstruction of Justice, a Fourth Degree Felony.

  • Jared Brown, 31, of Bridgeton, was charged with Murder (Intentionally and/or knowingly Causing Death), a First Degree felony; Murder (Murder During Robbery) First Degree Felony; Theft as a Second Degree Felony; Unlawful possession of a weapon, a Second Degree Felony; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a Second Degree Felony; Not Possession of a Weapon by a Particular Person, a Second Degree Felony; Hindering Arrest for Third Degree Felony; Obstruction of Justice, a Fourth Degree Felony.

  • Richard B. Hawkins Willis, 32, of Gloucester City, was charged with Murder (Intentionally and/or knowingly Causing Death), a crime of the First Degree; Murder (Murder During Robbery) First Degree Felony; Theft as a Second Degree Felony; Unlawful possession of a weapon, a Second Degree Felony; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a Second Degree Felony; Not Possession of a Weapon by a Particular Person, a Second Degree Felony; Hindering Arrest for Third Degree Felony; Obstruction of Justice, a Fourth Degree Felony.

  • Cyndia E. Pimentel, 38, of Paulsboro, was charged with Obstructing Investigation, a third-degree felony; Obstruction of Justice, a fourth-degree felony; Tampering with evidence is a fourth-degree crime.

The charges follow the tragic murder of Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office on October 15th.

“This is an important step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” said Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland. “We remain steadfast in our determination to hold those responsible for this horrific act accountable. Our hearts go out to Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.”

“Law enforcement and the State of New Jersey have lost a determined and dedicated public servant, but we know that the loss of Sergeant Monica Mosley is felt most deeply by her family, loved ones, and colleagues. While nothing can bring Sergeant back, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin “To thank Mosley’s loved ones again, we hope that the focused, coordinated efforts in this case will provide them with peace of mind knowing that justice is being pursued,” he said. “I want to recognize the incredible efforts of Dr. and the many other agencies involved in the investigation of his murder.”

Authorities say Detective Mosley is a ‘dedicated public servant who dedicated his life to protecting the community.’
