Driver Recalls Witnessing Cash Heist, Describes How Horrifying the Experience Was

A brazen cash to take (CIT) robbery in broad daylight on the N11 is still fresh in a motorist’s mind.

One security guard died and two others were injured in an armed attack gang He attacked a CIT van traveling between Ladysmith and Newcastle.

Although those responsible for the crime have long since disappeared, this harrowing incident is one a resident will not soon forget.

The driver told what he experienced

“I saw my fellow drivers turn and wave at me to go back, but I wasn’t sure what was happening at the time. At that time, I saw the armed men and after hearing multiple gunshots, I saw a man fall to the ground,” he said.

The driver, who wished to remain anonymous, said he saw the vehicle engulfed in flames after a huge explosion. More gunfire followed.

The shooting shocked him

The driver only stayed at the scene for 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes scared the hell out of him.

“I was in shock when I actually witnessed a live gunfight, and especially when I saw a man get shot. “I didn’t fully understand everything because I was shocked and scared.”

Knowing that one person was also killed in the incident is a situation he finds difficult to comprehend.

“It still breaks my heart to see the loss of a life and it is absolutely horrifying to know that a life can be taken so easily, especially on a busy road and in full view of passersby.”
