Police arrest 8 people for kidnapping, others in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested at least eight suspects in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and other related offenses in the state.

Abubakar Sadiq, spokesman for the command, who paraded the suspects in front of the Command Headquarters in Katsina, noted that the Command arrested 16-year-old Nuhu Haruna of Fenza village in Dutsinma Local Government Area in connection with a suspected case of culpable homicide.

Haruna was arrested at around 13:00 on October 21, 2024, after a misunderstanding with her stepmother, 40-year-old Rabi Haruna, who was at the same address.

According to him, the suspect allegedly used a stick to hit the victim in the stomach, which resulted in the death of the victim, adding that the suspect confessed to committing the crime during the investigation.

The command also arrested Abubakar Nasiru alias Haro in connection with a suspected criminal conspiracy and kidnapping case.

The command said the suspect, who was previously convicted of a rape, was finger-flagged in an ongoing investigation into a criminal conspiracy and kidnapping case and was therefore re-arrested.

During investigation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime and also admitted to receiving 2 million naira as his share of the proceeds.

“The fact of the matter is that in 2023, the suspect, in connivance with other suspects who are currently at large, attacked Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA and kidnapped three (3) victims. Thirteen million naira was paid as ransom to secure the release of the victims.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime and also receiving two (2) million naira as his share of the proceeds.

Police stated, “While the investigation continues, efforts are continuing to capture the escaped suspects.”
