Police bring Durban CBD to a standstill as they raid various shops

DURBAN – Police brought KwaZulu-Natal’s Durban CBD to a standstill on Thursday when they raided several shops in the city centre.

Police say they are disrupting illegal trade in the economic hub.

The raids target stores believed to sell counterfeit products, among other illegal items.

The police’s contraband unit, comprising a team from the Pretoria Police Department, carried out the raids.

Eyewitness News He was called to one of the secret warehouses where fake products of luxury brands were seized.

These raids also came after several school students were hospitalized for alleged food poisoning after consuming food from vendors.

Some 36 foreign nationals were arrested on Tuesday when authorities raided stores selling expired food in the Durban CBD.

Insiders in the South African Police Service told Eyewitness News It was stated that raids will continue in some parts of the province in the coming days as the police tightened the regulations.
