Rivada and Colt collaborate on ‘unique’ LEO satellite link

Colt Technology Services Rivada is partnering with Space Networks to deliver what they say will represent a unique, next-generation low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity network with the flexibility and performance to drive digital innovation and transformation.

Rivada’s low latency Point-to-point connectivity network of 600 LEO satellitesIt combines inter-satellite laser links, called Outernet, with onboard processing that provides routing and switching capabilities to create an optical mesh network in space.

It is said that he can combine speed fiber With the reach of the satellite, the global data constellation will use satellite-to-satellite laser links to provide an ultra-secure and low-latency network.

Such an orbital network approach, where data stays in space from origin to destination, creates pole-to-pole coverage and offers lower end-to-end latencies than terrestrial fiber over similar long distances, the two firms said.

By routing traffic through a physically separated network, it provides a layer of defense for any organization that needs to securely share data between widely distributed sites. The network is planned to be put into service in 2025 and services are aimed to start in 2026.

The partnership will enable Colt to leverage Rivada’s Outernet to provide resiliency for high-quality voice, video and data services and a new level of cybersecurity to organizations that require secure infrastructure, such as banking and financial services.

Outernet’s connectivity capabilities aim to improve network performance and enable true digital transformation and new business opportunities through multi-gigabit bidirectional performance as well as worldwide reach.

Colt said the growing demand from businesses to move large amounts of data securely and quickly around the world is putting existing digital infrastructure under more pressure than ever before, requiring organizations to look to new network technologies.

“Our goal is to deliver agile, secure, high-performance solutions combined with Colt’s customer experience, supported by our resilient, sustainable digital infrastructure,” said Buddy Bayer, Colt Technology Services Chief Operating Officer. “The opportunities to leverage this global B2B access solution are immense, and we are incredibly excited about this partnership.”

Declan Ganley, CEO of Rivada Space Networks, said: “We are delighted to be working with a dynamic company like Colt Technology Services to develop space-based solutions to power digital transformation.

“The security and durability of communications are becoming increasingly important in the digital economy,” he said. “The Outernet is enabling satellites to move beyond their traditional ‘gap-filling’ role and is rapidly becoming the infrastructure of choice for secure data communications, as a fully interconnected orbital network that provides highly secure connectivity anywhere on the planet.”
