Rivers: MEND condemns fight between Wike and Fubara

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has condemned in strong terms the ongoing feud between the Rivers State governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, his predecessor and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The movement’s spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, stated in his statement that they would not be forced to attack any oil facility in the Niger Delta region after the political crisis in the state, and that they assured that they would protect state assets in the interests of the nation. .

According to him, the group is ready to support security officials in protecting crude oil facilities from attacks.

“MEND condemns the threat to crude oil installations in the Niger Delta by some former militants and agitators in the region; the group will not support violence linked to political disputes between Wike and Fubara,” Gbomo said. he said.

He observed that the threat to the country’s economy due to political disagreement between the two politicians, who are allies, was unfortunate and further added that both politicians were sons of the Niger Delta and it was not possible for them to be fooled into bearing arms against the United States in the current situation. The Nigerian state is in the name of none of these, at any cost.

He said as an Ijaw son, he knew the gains that would come from installing an Ijaw man as governor in Rivers; this was a feat that would not have been possible without the cooperation of other ethnic groups. Ijaw’s son as governor ushered in the FCT Minister.

Therefore, he stated that they will offer full cooperation with security officials to ensure that persons or groups that pose a threat to the smooth conduct of crude oil exploration stand by their booked sponsors and said, “If you are going. You better dig two graves for revenge, one for yourself, one for your enemy, the sage.” One word is enough.”

Gbomo appealed to elders and traditional institutions in the area to genuinely intervene in the ongoing political crises in the state to ensure a peaceful and harmonious relationship.
