Cochrane seeks input from residents on parks and recreation plan

The Town of Cochrane invites residents to share their ideas for the future of parks, recreation, sports and culture in the community.

The town is developing a new Parks, Culture and Active Living Master Plan and wants to ensure it aligns with residents’ priorities.

Parks and Active Life Director Michelle Delorme says they’re trying to understand what kind of infrastructure people should prioritize.

“What kinds of activities do people engage in, like gardening, bird watching or reading? The spectrum of recreation is pretty broad, so it starts with gardening and can go all the way to competitive sports and everything in between.”

The town is asking residents to fill out a survey and provide feedback so that a plan that reflects the needs of our community can be developed.

“The plan is going to help us understand where we want the community to be in 10 years and how we’re going to get there, and having the community drive that by talking and telling us what their needs are is how we go about determining what this plan will outline for us.”

“We’re talking to all the organized community groups and understanding what their registration numbers are and what their trends are.”

Delorme notes that when they conduct these studies, they often uncover new areas to focus on.

“I think what surprises me the most is that there are so many cricketers at Cochrane. So we don’t have an organized cricket group at Cochrane but there are a lot of people who say they attend and watch different events and events but the thing that has surprised me so far is Cricket.”
