Bengal chief launches mass welfare initiative for welfare of weaker section – ThePrint –

Kolkata, Nov 1 (PTI) West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose on Friday launched a mass welfare initiative for the welfare of the weak community.

As part of the ‘Apna Bhaarat – Jagta Bengal’ initiative, special emphasis will be given to women empowerment, safety and security of children and how to tackle human trafficking and drug abuse, Raj Bhavan said.

It was stated that the initiative will also cover cultural and educational aspects where educated young people can benefit from interaction with experts about their future.

“In line with the Governor’s ongoing policy of mass support, the program will be characterized by various initiatives and multi-pronged strategies aimed at addressing different important issues faced by the people and at the same time mentoring the youth,” the statement said.

‘Apna Bhaarat – Jagta Bengal’ was launched on the occasion of Bose completing two years in office.

One of the important components of the initiative is the ‘Abhaya Plus’ self-defense courses for girls.

Notably, ‘Abhaya’ is the name given by a section of the media to the on-duty doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on August 9, leading to mass grief and protests across the state. It is illegal to identify a rape victim.

The multi-faceted initiative will also have a ‘File to Field’ segment where Raj Bhavan will reach 250 locations across the state covering all districts. In the program ‘Duare Rajyapal’ or ‘The Governor at Your Doorstep’, Bose will visit tribal areas and visit all those who seek him out, especially those in distress.

Among other planned events, the governor will visit various colleges and schools and interact with students. Scholarships will also be given to successful and needy students.

The ‘Jan Ki Baat’ program will be geared towards listening to views and interacting with anyone who wants to interact directly with the governor.

The statement also stated that under another program, those who contribute to the enrichment of life in various fields will be rewarded by Raj Bhavan. PTI SUS SCH NN
