17-year-old teenager arrested after Wednesday morning shooting

Oct. 30 – CHAMPAIGN – Champaign police arrested a teenager Wednesday as part of their investigation into a shooting that occurred that morning.

Police responded to a report of gunshots near Fourth Street and Nelson Court at 11:51 a.m. and found evidence of gunshots, including bullet casings, in the 300 block of Nelson Court.

While there were no injuries in the incident, damage occurred to a house and a vehicle.

The investigation showed that gunfire was exchanged and then a 17-year-old male from Champaign fled to a nearby home.

Police executed a search warrant at the home and the suspect was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He is currently in custody at the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.

Champaign police said despite the arrest, the investigation is ongoing and officers continue to canvass the area for witnesses and video footage.
