Lancaster County woman charged with burglary, aggravated assault

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– An Ephrata woman has been charged after allegedly stealing nearly $6,000 in items from stores in Lancaster County in October, according to the Ephrata Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the Ephrata County Walmart on Oct. 30 after staff observed a woman placing miscellaneous items into a reusable shopping bag. Police identified the suspect as the same woman who allegedly stole computers worth approximately $4,000 on October 12.

The woman was stopped by police officers as she tried to leave the store with $2,000 worth of merchandise. Police said he resisted arrest and kicked officers.

The suspect, identified by police as Trayeshia C. Smith, 23, of Norristown, repeatedly gave officers a false name and date of birth, according to police.

Smith was charged with retail theft, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, providing false identification to law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

He was arraigned and bail was set at $20,000 for the October 12 incident and $50,000 bail for the October 30 incident. Smith is incarcerated in the Lancaster County Jail, police said.
