The Barrie & District Association of Realtors (BDAR) has launched its fourth annual virtual fundraiser, A Night of Shelter.

From today until November 25, BDAR will be collecting donations Youth Paradise, Redwood Park CommunitiesAnd Hospice Simcoe.

An overnight shelter provides a person in crisis with the necessary resources and support, including medical, counseling, employment assistance, and housing, to begin their journey to health and well-being.

“The average cost of a night’s stay in our area is $30, and our goal is to cover 365 nights for a total of $11,000,” says Lindsay Percy, 2024 BDAR president. “Here are a few stories from those who have benefited from the housing and programs our partner organizations provide.”

“I stayed at Youth Haven on and off from 16 to 20. They supported me and taught me the skills I needed to be where I am today. They were always there for me in good times and bad times. They never gave up on me even in my worst moment. They were the parents I never had. “It is and always will be the best place for young people in need.”

“I’ve only been here an hour and it already feels like home.”

Homelessness refers to the lack of safe, stable, permanent and affordable housing.

“This is not a one-dimensional situation. It includes families on the verge of losing their homes due to economic inadequacy, the hidden homeless population staying with friends or family because they have nowhere to go, others escaping trauma, system collapses, and much more,” explains Percy.

BDAR has long contributed to local housing-based organizations through a variety of initiatives. This year, we shifted our focus to showcasing local organizations within our community that provide respite and residential care housing, helping individuals and families get back on their feet, and creating a brighter future.

“We look forward to another successful fundraiser and working with local organizations that will make a positive impact on our community,” says Percy.
