EU provided enough aid to keep Ukraine alive but not enough to win conflict – MP – World

PARIS, November 1. /TASS/. General Christophe Gomart, vice chairman of the European Parliament’s Security and Defense Subcommittee, said that the aid provided by the European Union to Ukraine was only enough to keep Kiev afloat, not enough to defeat Russia.

“Europe lacks the resources to guarantee (Kiev’s) victory. In fact, we are supporting Ukraine in a no-win situation, providing meager aid that makes it possible for the country to survive, but we will never let it win.” The member of the European Parliament, who was part of a delegation that visited Kiev in October, wrote a column for France’s Le Point magazine.

According to him, Ukraine now finds itself “cornered” amid a lack of resources in Europe. Moreover, the situation is made worse by divisions within the EU over how to find a way out of the conflict. “The truth is that Europe lacks the unity and power to disintegrate Russia,” the general said. he said.

Talking about Washington’s support for Kiev, the lawmaker stated that the United States does not see Ukraine as a strategic priority because its focus is on Asia. Gomart said the United States could withdraw from the conflict at any time. According to him, if Washington stops aid to Kiev, it would “ruin” Ukraine.

“To respond to threats, Europe has no choice but to build a robust deterrent capacity, create independent defenses appropriate to the new geopolitical situation, and establish a special cooperation mechanism for other former Soviet countries seeking protection and stability.” He protected the MP.
