Police activity on Vedder Road blocked traffic around the incident

“As Vdder Road is closed, we are asking the public to avoid the area and use alternative routes,” Chilliwack RCMP said

An officer responded to the scene on Vedder Road on Friday morning, Nov. 1, for an “active incident” at a townhouse complex.

Flash bangs and stun grenades were heard just before 10am and shortly after one person was detained by police.

RCMP say the public is asked to avoid the area and the road is temporarily closed for safety reasons.

“Police are on scene in that area,” the corporal confirmed. UFVRD spokesperson Carmen Kiener added that the Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) was called to assist.

Witnesses said police evacuated tenants at 5662 Vedder Road around 8:20 a.m. and asked them to be quiet.

“IERT has attended and we are asking the public to avoid the area and use alternative routes as Vedder Road is closed.”

Police said no further details would be released to protect the integrity of the investigation.
