Man extradited to Mcduffie County 1 year after armed robbery

DEARING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect in connection with a 2023 armed robbery and aggravated assault has been extradited to McDuffie County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Corderro Latron Morton, 34, was booked into the McDuffie County jail Wednesday, according to jail bookings.

On May 16, deputies intervened in the transport of a victim to Doctors Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

According to the incident report, deputies contacted the victim upon arrival, who advised that he had been messaged by the suspect on Facebook Marketplace to purchase his dirt bike.

The victim told deputies that when the suspect came to pick up his dirt bike, it was dropped off by another unidentified person.

Deputies said the suspect then pulled a gun on the victim and shot him. In the incident report, the victim he fought back and threw his gun at the suspect.

According to the incident report, the victim took cover as the suspect continued shooting at him before taking off toward Augusta Road on his dirt bike.

Deputies say both victim and suspect had guns outside the house.

The report states that deputies were called to assist in a motorcycle chase with the suspect involved.

According to the incident report, Morton allegedly tried to evade deputies and nearly hit several cars as he continued east on the Augusta Expressway into Columbia County.

Deputies said they notified Columbia County to assist.

While on Augusta Highway, the dirt bike stopped working, authorities said. Morton allegedly left his bike in front of a resident on Gordon Highway and fled on foot, behind the residence and into the woods.

Authorities said Morton disappeared into the woods and the District of Columbia Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter to find the suspect.

According to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, Morton was in custody from another institution and was transferred from Macon County Jail.

Morton is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, motor vehicle hijacking and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain crimes, according to jail records.

Records show Morton is being held in the McDuffie County jail. His bond was denied.
