RPD produces weapons, drug arrests Thursday

ROCHESTER, NY — Rochester Police made arrests Thursday on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in two separate incidents, one of which involved drugs.

— At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers observed a 16-year-old boy on Lyell Avenue with a firearm in his waistband, whom they knew had a Family Court arrest warrant for juvenile delinquency. Police said officers tried to stop him and he ran into the store and threw a loaded Arminus .32-caliber handgun. Police detained the person suspected of having cocaine and fentanyl. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; He was also charged with a J.D. warrant for his arrest in May 2024 and also with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Monroe County Juvenile Center.

— Just after 10 p.m., officers stopped a 2017 Honda on Joseph’s Boulevard for a traffic violation. Police said the driver, 31-year-old Shaiasia Williams, opened the glove compartment and officers saw a handgun there. Williams and passenger James Williams, 34, were taken into custody. Neither can legally own a firearm in New York due to prior convictions. Both were charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
