Thomson man arrested and charged with aggravated assault after argument with neighbors

THOMSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A Thomson man was arrested for allegedly firing an assault rifle into the ground following an argument with neighbors.

Antwan Lamont Wells, 50, was arrested Sunday, according to jail records.

According to the incident report, on Oct. 26, authorities responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area of ​​Huntly Circle and Northview Exit.

The report states that the Thomson Police Department was initially assigned to the Northview Exit area because it was within the city’s jurisdiction. However, further investigation showed that the crime scene was on Huntly Circle.

McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they responded to the scene and spoke with the complainants, who live across the street from Wells.

According to the incident report, the complainant said he and his wife went to Wells’ house to pick up their nephew because they were told Wells had kicked him out of the house.

Officials said the complainant went in and out of the house to collect his nephew’s belongings. Wells was outside and armed.

The incident report states that Wells “became enraged and fired several shots into the ground without warning.”

According to the incident report, the complainant stated that his wife got out of the truck and shouted at Wells that there were children in the vehicle.

Authorities said Wells then fired more bullets and told them, “You think I’m something to be played with.”

Deputies said after multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact Wells, they found him on his front porch and took him into custody, according to the incident report.

Wells is charged with aggravated assault, 3rd degree cruelty to children, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain crimes, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first-time offender, according to jail records.

Records show Wells is being held in the McDuffie County jail.
