Police arrest suspect who specializes in kidnapping minors in Ogun

Ogun State police operatives have arrested one Onoriode Augustine for allegedly kidnapping minors in Ijebu-Ode local government area of the state.

The 33-year-old suspect paraded at the Eleweran command headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Friday.

Addressing journalists, Commissioner Abiodun Amalutu stated that despite the arrest of Augustine, another suspect identified as Akpan was still at large.

Alamutu noted that the suspect during interrogation confessed to kidnapping more than ten children and that these children were returned to their families after the ransom was paid.

According to the Commissioner, the suspect also organized the kidnappings that took place in Ijebu Ode where Adeogun Oluwasegun and Jonathan Favor were kidnapped.

Abiodun said: “While the suspect, Akpan, has escaped, the state has remained largely peaceful with the recent arrest of one Onoriode Augustine, 33. “They are particularly targeting children for kidnapping purposes.

“Since they started this illegal activity, they took more than 10 children and after the ransom was paid, the children were returned to their families.

“They also informed the police that they staged the kidnappings that took place in Ijebu Ode where Adeogun Oluwasegun and Jonathan Favor were kidnapped on September 17 and 22 using similar deceptive tactics such as pretending to rent a battery and renting a flat.”
