Crackdown on illegal marijuana closes nearly 20 locations in Monroe County

Nearly 20 businesses in Monroe County were recently padlocked and marked with “ILLEGAL POSSESSION OBTAINED” signs after the New York Office of Marijuana Management (OCM) and local law enforcement targeted unlicensed marijuana sales.

The week-long search resulted in multiple raids, including a notable operation at Irondequoit store Higher Intentions, which was closed on October 27 after police reported illegal sales on the premises.

OCM’s Director of Enforcement, Daniel Haughney, stressed that the crackdown was part of a wider effort to crack down on unlicensed sales.

In total, seven people were arrested and Greek police seized over $1 million in illicit funds and over 1,000 pounds of illicit products. Haughney noted that businesses that sell without a license could be banned from obtaining licenses in the future for at least three years under the Cannabis Regulation and Taxation Act.
