No. 4 South Carolina defeated No. 15 Iowa State 76-36 after a 32-0 run in the first half

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — No. 4 South Carolina went on a 32-0 run in the first half and beat No. 15 Iowa State 76-36 in Thursday’s Fort Myers Tip-Off.

The Gamecocks are playing for the first time since-No. 1 UCLA ended its 43-game winning streak Sunday, holding the Cyclones scoreless for nearly 15 minutes. Joyce Edwards played with 13 points and 11 rebounds for South Carolina (6-1), and Sania Feagin played with 13 points.

Audi Crooks scored 13 points and 9 rebounds for Iowa State (5-2), and Mackenzie Hare scored 12 points for the Cyclones.

South Carolina missed 13 consecutive shots after a 32-0 run and the lead fell to 37-20. But the Gamecocks made seven of the next eight shots and pulled away.

NO. 11 OHIO STATE 70, FORMER DOMINION 47

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Ajae Petty scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds on 11-of-13 shooting to beat No. 11 Ohio State Old Dominion in the Daytona Beach Classic.

Petty scored the first four points of the game and the Buckeyes never trailed.

Jaloni Cambridge added 15 points and 6 assists for Ohio State (5-0), which played Utah State on Friday. Taylor Thierry had seven points to reach 1,000 in his career.

Simaru Fields and Brenda Fontana scored 11 points each for the Monarchs, who played against Oakland on Saturday (4-2).

The Buckeyes went 4-of-16 in the first quarter but held the Monarchs to 2-of-10. The teams committed 23 turnovers in total. After Petty, a graduate transfer from Kentucky, was 5-of-6, Ohio State went 9-of-18 in the second quarter to take a 34-14 lead at halftime.

Shooting was again tough for Ohio State in the third quarter, but the Monarchs couldn’t get any closer than 17. Although the Buckeyes finished the game 11 points to 0 points, they closed the scoring by making 9 of 13 shots.

Old Dominion finished the game with a score of 34% with 28 turnovers.

NO. 22 IOWA 69, RHODE ISLAND 62

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Addison O’Grady scored 18 points, Hannah Stuelke added 13 and 22nd-seeded Iowa beat Rhode Island in the Cancun Challenge.

O’Grady reached double figures in six games after appearing in just two games the previous two seasons. He went 9-of-8 from the field to help Iowa shoot 52% from the field.

Iowa’s leading scorer, Lucy Olsen, was missing from the field due to a deep cut on her knee when she tripped during practice. He averaged 17.3 points in six games.

Iowa is off to its best start since Lisa Bluder’s team started the 2017-18 season with a 7-0 mark. On May 13, 2024, Jan Jensen became Iowa’s fifth head coach in program history, joining Angie Lee’s 1995-96 team to become the second coach in program history to start 7-0.

Kylie Feuerbach scored 12 points for Iowa.

Harsimran Kaur scored 21 points for Rhode Island (4-3). Ines Debroise, one of five players from France on the Rams roster, also added 12 players.

Rhode Island battles Idaho State while Iowa plays BYU on Friday.
