An Post is contacting gardaí following the alleged theft of a significant quantity of parcels and letters along the Dublin 12 area post route.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating claims that letters and parcels were likely taken from the Dublin 12 area, with many reported missing for up to eight weeks.

A person of interest has been identified.

Garda headquarters said in a statement that its officers were “investigating the alleged theft of a large quantity of material from a national service provider”.

The statement added: “An Garda Síochána is liaising with the affected service provider regarding the matter.”

A spokesman for An Post said that following an investigation by the postal service in conjunction with An Garda Síochana, “a number of undelivered letters and small parcels addressed to addresses were found on a postal route in Crumlin”.

An Post said it “sincerely apologizes” to customers affected for the “sadness and inconvenience” and is working to have this mail delivered as quickly as possible.

“We cannot provide any further information regarding this matter while the investigation is ongoing.”

A dedicated phone line was also provided for affected customers.
